The rapid development that the City of Fulshear is experiencing has created an increased demand for telecommunication infrastructure such as cell towers and antennas. Although the current infrastructure meets the current need in regard to coverage, it is inadequate in it’s ability to provide the proper capacity.
City staff have devoted their time to corresponding and coordinating with telecommunication providers to encourage and see to fruition the construction of new infrastructure to satisfy the needs that persist throughout the City limits.
Minor amendments to chapter 8 “Buildings and other structures” include increasing landscaping and barrier requirements to screen mechanical equipment and accessory structures, removing guyed-wired structures from permissible design criteria, and reducing onerous setbacks and test radii to a more realistic and practical distance.
Telecommunication tower structures are permitted in residential zones including City-owned property. However, it is the goal and intention of the City to provide better coverage and capacity through the construction of new infrastructure without having an adverse impact on the homeowners who might live in close proximity to a tower or antenna.
